You can’t say anything these days!

“You can’t say anything these days; we have to be so PC all the time”.

I was chatting to a client about this, and you won’t be surprised to read that I wholeheartedly disagree. There is still so much that you can say. There are many descriptive non-offensive words that I continue to learn. Words I never knew or those whose meanings have been reclaimed as more positive.

Language has changed over time and will continue to change but to feel that you can’t say ANYTHING is a bit of an exaggeration. The word *throttlebottom used to be a part of the English language, yet we have all managed to get by without using it!

By not thinking of more appropriate and less offensive words, you are being lazy and not considering the feelings of others. I can only presume that if you feel that you can’t say anything without offending someone, then all you want to do is say inappropriate, offensive stuff.

I might not be comfortable hearing the language you might be comfortable using, especially if it’s derogatory towards me. Please don't use it if I’m uncomfortable with it and you respect me.

*Throttlebottom: a bumbling, inept, futile person in public office.
